| Mailshell: Easy Newsletter Management and Anti-Spam
Measures |
 |
With Mailshell, you can manage your newsletter
subscriptions in one place easily -- and protect your email account
from spam.
Newsletter Woes
First,
it is difficult to find the right newsletter. Then, unsubscribing is
if not impossible at least cumbersome, and if you want to cancel
more than one subscription at the same time, you can spend hours
sending emails and visiting Web sites and filling out forms.
Eventually, you never know what happens with your email address if
you sign up somewhere, and spammers may already be selling it to
fellow-spammers.
Mailshell
There
is a Web site that tries to solve these problems, and it looks like
it is quite successfully doing so.
The
site is called Mailshell.
Easy
Subscribing
At the
heart of Mailshell is a comprehensive directory of (mainly) email
newsletters and some mailing lists, organized in categories from
"Arts and Entertainment" to "Women". This list helps with finding
relevant newsletters.
To help
you with finding out which of these are worth subscribing to,
Mailshell's "Pick Rating" does not seem to be adequately expressive
(it is not clear who is rating). The "Popularity Rank" is more of an
indicator, at least of the popular appeal of a
newsletter.
The
most important feature with judging a newsletter is the newsletter
itself, though. Mailshell has an example of every newsletter in its
list, and it is not some dust covered sample from 1996, but the most
recent mailing sent to the list.
Mailshell also helps those newsletter junkies that do not
care that much about the contents of an individual one but want to
get on as many as possible: it is very easy to subscribe to multiple
newsletters at the same time.
