Mailshell has launched a new Internet privacy service that allows e-mail users to subscribe to and participate in such online services as discussion lists without opening themselves up to a new barrage of junk mail. The Mailshell users have to remember only the address "nojunk@mailshell.com" when signing up for e-mail or Web services. The company then automatically creates a new, private and disposable proxy email address called a "mail shell" that serves to keep a user's real address anonymous. Since each Mailshell address is unique to each subscription request, tracking and throttling the source of SPAM in the future is made easier. The Mailshell addresses can also be set to expire automatically, allowing some to be used for one-time-only contact. The company also said it plans to promote its technology by making it Mailshell proxy server widely available through open-source code. World Wide Web: http://www.mailshell.com//
