Compose Options

What are the Compose Options?

The Compose Options page in Options lets you change settings related to composing messages: whether to save outgoing messages in the Sent folder by default, whether to Restrict Addresses when sending messages with remote compose, whether to automatically put addresses in remote compose format with Email Address Redirection, whether to track messages by default, and whether you want an email receipt when tracked messages have been opened.

To change any of these settings, click the "Compose Options" link in Options and make changes using the appropriate buttons, then click the "Save Settings" button.

What does "Restrict Addresses for Remote Compose" mean?

This feature applies when you are using remote compose to send messages using your Mailshell addresses outside of Mailshell: by turning it on, only your forwarding addresses will be able to send these messages. If you are concerned about unauthorized use of your addresses, you should turn this feature on.

To change the "Restrict Addresses for Remote Compose" setting, click the "Compose Options" link in Options and use the buttons to select "Yes" or "No," then click the "Save Settings" button.

What does "Email Address Redirection" mean?

Email Address Redirection is a way for you to protect your private email address when you reply to email messages that have been forwarded there: when this feature is turned on, Mailshell will modify the email addresses in the headers of each message to remote compose format so that your reply appears to come from the Mailshell address that originally received the message. For example, if you receive an email at your Yahoo! account that has been forwarded through the disposable email address family@your-name.com, when you reply, the recipient will see the message as coming from family@your-name.com rather than the Yahoo! address. (Note that you can also protect your address yourself by using remote compose format manually, even if Email Address Redirection is not turned on.)

By default, this feature is turned off. To change the setting, click the "Compose Options" link in Options and use the buttons to select "Yes" or "No," then click the "Save Settings" button.

What are the Tracking Delivery Options?

The Tracking Delivery Options let Premium users choose whether to track outgoing messages by default and whether to receive an email receipt when messages are first opened. You can change these settings by clicking the "Compose Options" link in Options. Then:

  • If you want to track most of your messages, use the buttons to set "Track Email by Default" to "Yes." When you compose, the "Track Delivery" box will be pre-checked.

  • If you want to receive an email receipt when tracked messages have been opened, use the buttons to set "Send Tracking Receipt" to "Yes." (Receipts are sent to the Mailshell address used to send the tracked message.)

Click the "Save Settings" button when you are done.
