Another Booming U.S. Export: Email Overload
San Francisco, CA, March 10, 2010 - The United
States drives the world's growing email overload. More than
20 percent of the world's spam, and more than 30 percent
of the world's legitimate email, originate in the US, making
it the largest producer of each, according to results published
today by Mailshell SpamIQ's analysis of global email patterns
for the month of February. Mailshell SpamIQ tracks global
email traffic patterns, create profiles of spam to identify
new attack vectors, and quantifies email filters' detection
rates.
'A large portion of this spam comes from 'zombies',
computers infected by spam-sending malware,' said Reagan
Yarema, SpamIQ project manager at Mailshell. 'Most zombie
networks are controlled by spammers outside the U.S. Many
of these zombies are home computers, despite the prevalence
of anti-malware software.'
Mailshell is the leading provider of traffic
reputation, anti-spam and anti-phishing software engines
for OEMs. Mailshell helps its OEM partners, including McAfee,
CA, Check Point, NETGEAR, Webroot, AVG, Eset and others,
generate new revenue, while reducing related engineering
and support costs. For more information: http://www.mailshell.com.
