One usually decides between features and reliability. Simple ones are usually more stable while more complex ones may crash your system. The right client for you may depend on some of the following choices:

• Reading HTML documents. Some email clients can read HTML documents without opening a browser.
• Mail filtering. This feature allows you to manipulate your email based on rules available from the client. If the characteristics of an incoming email matches a rule, a certain action will be performed on the email. Actions include moving email into different folders, moving email into the trash for unwanted email, auto forwarding, and more. More advanced clients have more complicated rules.
• Supports for different fonts. Some clients allow you to compose email in different fonts and colors. If the client reading your email doesn't support the same fonts, the person reading the email will not see the formatted text.
