Finjan Software Selects
Mailshell to Provide Advanced Spam Fighting Tools For
Finjan's Vital Security Solution
Integrated Product Offering Combines SpamCatcher
With SurfinGate for E-Mail To Increase Productivity
and Ensure E-mail Remains Valuable Communications Tool
SAN JOSE, CA, and SANTA CLARA, CA - April
14, 2003 - Finjan Software, the leading provider of
proactive security solutions for global companies, and
Mailshell, creator of the easiest and most accurate
solution to spam, today announced the integration of
Mailshell's SpamCatcher(TM) engine into Finjan's best-of-breed
Vital Security(TM) solution, SurfinGate® for E-mail.
The partnership will provide Finjan customers
with an additional anti-spam defense that complements
Finjan's existing set of anti-spam features available
in its SurfinGate for E-mail solution. With the cost
of fighting spam predicted by Ferris Research to hit
$10 billion in 2003, this agreement provides global
organizations with a security and content management
tool that increases worker productivity and improves
network bandwidth while drastically cutting the costs
associated with the eradication of spam and the security
threats it can bring into the corporate environment.
"With the proliferation of undesired content
and spam starting to represent as much as 50 percent
of all messages in a given corporate in-box, the business
value of e-mail communications is threatened," said
Shlomo Touboul, Finjan Software's founder and CEO. "Our
partnership with Mailshell and its industry recognized
anti-spam management solution addresses this growing
business concern and is part of Finjan's ongoing strategy
to provide innovative content security and management
applications to our customers."
According to IDC, spam volume is up 28
percent to 870 billion messages in North America alone,
with that figure expected to surpass 1 trillion by the
end of 2003. This represents a growing challenge for
organizations as they seek to manage this onslaught
and balance communication needs with organizational
productivity. The Finjan-Mailshell partnership addresses
this challenge by arming organizations with a robust
solution that proactively filters unwanted emails, ensuring
that e-mail continues to be a productive and viable
communications tool.
"Blocking spam from their corporate networks
is among IT directors' top priorities for 2003," said
Tonny Yu, founder and CEO of Mailshell. "Finjan is recognized
as one of the leading proactive content security platform
providers and an ideal partner for Mailshell. We expect
customers to benefit tremendously from the integration
of these two solutions, arming them with superior integrated
content security."
With products and services that exceed
the rudimentary level of defense typically offered by
reactive anti-virus software solutions, Finjan's Vital
Security solutions protect mission critical information
and systems from the most malicious Internet attacks
that occur at the desktop and gateway levels. The most
robust platform of its kind, Finjan's Vital Security
provides a best-of-breed, integrated content security
offering that proactively responds to changing, yet-to-be-created
Internet security threats. Armed with Vital Security,
more than 1,400 corporations and 1.8 million end-users
can close their Window of Vulnerability(TM) for potential
attacks by almost 100% by continually monitoring, analyzing
and reporting active content entering the network.
Mailshell SpamCatcher engine integrates
seamlessly into Finjan's Vital Security Solution platform.
SpamCatcher uses more than a thousand spam-blocking
rules including pattern matches, heuristic functions,
proprietary and third-party databases. Complex algorithms
are applied to compute the probability that each piece
of e-mail is spam. SpamCatcher also creates a fingerprint
ID for every e-mail message and compares it to existing
fingerprints in its databases in order to continuously
analyze new spam, create new rules, and adjust the weighting
of existing rules. Because the nature of spam constantly
changes, customers can opt to receive scheduled or real-time
rules updates.
