Enable Outlook Express Plugin

For Outlook Express users, Mailshell Anti-Spam has an Outlook Express plugin which allows you to easily filter spam messages and change your settings via buttons on your Outlook Express toolbar.

With the plugin, you can:

  • Add Approved Senders by clicking on the Approve Message button on your Outlook Express toolbar.

  • Add Blocked Senders by clicking on the Block Message button on your Outlook Express toolbar.

  • Change your Mailshell Anti-Spam settings by clicking on the Mailshell Anti-Spam icon on the Outlook Express toolbar.

Also note that if the Outlook Express plugin is enabled, no configuration is required to download messages with the pop proxy. This feature is enabled by default.

To disable the Outlook Express Plugin, double-click on the Mailshell Anti-Spam icon in the system tray. On the Mailshell Anti-Spam popup, uncheck "Enable Outlook Express Plugin" in the Outlook Express Options section, then click the Apply button.

Outlook Express Spam Threshold

For Outlook Express users, Mailshell Anti-Spam can filter possible spam by moving the messages to the SpamCatcher folder. The Outlook Express Spam Threshold option allows you to adjust and customize the filtering threshold you want to use. This feature is enabled by default and set to "Lenient".

To disable Outlook Express Spam Threshold, double-click on the Mailshell Anti-Spam icon in the system tray. On the Mailshell Anti-Spam popup, uncheck "Enable Outlook Express Spam Threshold" in the Outlook Express Options section, then click the Apply button.

Block/Approve Confirmations

Enabling this feature will cause Mailshell Anti-Spam to display a confirmation window whenever you block or approve an address or a domain. This feature is enabled by default.

To disable confirmations, click on the Mailshell Anti-Spam icon on the Outlook Express toolbar. On the Mailshell Anti-Spam popup, uncheck "Enable Block/Approve Confirmations" under the Outlook Express Options section, then click the Apply button.

Scanning of Outlook Express Folders

If you use Outlook Express, you can improve the accuracy of your spam filtering by allowing Mailshell Anti-Spam to periodically scan your Inbox and Sent Items folder for legit email addresses. "From" addresses in messages older than one day in the Inbox and "To" addresses of messages in the Sent Items folder will be given preference when computing spam scores.

You also have the option of setting the scan frequency of the Outlook Express folders. If you wish to scan your Outlook Express folders, click on the "Scan Now" button. Scanning of Outlook Express Folders is enabled by default and is set to a scan frequency of every "day".

To disable scanning, click on the Mailshell Anti-Spam icon on the Outlook Express toolbar. On the Mailshell Anti-Spam popup, uncheck "Enable Scanning of Outlook Express Folders" under the Outlook Express Options section, then click the Apply button.
